Forget The Wire, forget The Shield, forget Dixon of Dock Green, I've just seen True Justice. It is created, written, executive produced and starring Steven Seagal which probably tells you all you need to know. In truth I haven't seen much of Mr. Seagal since his Under Siege, Marked for Death pony tailed era and he has changed a bit. He's more portly these days with jet black, Elvis type hair. In fact it is so black it makes you think half the shows budget goes on tankers full of Grey Away but I was glad to see he still does that wrist snapping back thing to the bad guys.
Steven plays (the Old Testament type named) Elijah Kane, the head honcho of a Seattle undercover cop unit. He is a Zen like character all decked out in (slimming) black. He is so Zen he even has ceremonial swords in his Zen like office, that's how Zen he is. In fact he needs to be laid back because the rest of the Unit tear around like attention deficit disorder kids on a sugar jag. They're a non descript bunch who when they're not being smugly aggressive are being aggressively smug and you just know each one will have their own personal demon to conquer as the series trundles on.
Luckily, for them, the bad guys in True Justice are mega stupid. One drug dealer hands some heroine to one of our heroes, on nothing more than the assurance that he isn't a cop - D'oh!
The plot barely exists and is really only there so Steven Seagal can snap back some wrists, kick some nads, and spout a few (self written) one liners. Also there was a street gun battle that was more Naked Gun than Heat and there really are times when you could see Leslie Nielsen in the Seagal role.
Although the show is set in Seattle, it had that filmed in Canada feeling. We all know the drill by now, lots of inserts of the city then generic street after generic street.
True Justice is one of those shows where you might end up watching half a dozen episodes then wander away and forget it ever existed.
