Don't Trust The Bitch In Apartment 23 v New Girl

So how many of you out there have watched ‘New Girl?’ I did, I know my friends did? What about you did you watch it?I guess you probably did, most people did anyway. What did you think? If you refer to my previous post on it, you’ll see that for the most part I kind of liked it. I liked Zooey Deschenal anyway. I thought generally the show was ok and occasional really good. Either way I finished watching all 24 episodes thinking ‘yeah that was alright’ but then I watched Don’t Trust The Bitch In Apartment 23 and I changed my mind.

So have you watched DTTB? You’ve more likely to have seen New Girl than DTTB, because hardly anyone I’ve spoke to has watched it and it’s a shame because what a treat you are missing out on! It really is brilliant and makes New Girl look like something you’d see on CBeebies! Honestly how I will watch New Girl again after those 7 episodes of DTTB is beyond me?!

See unlike New Girl, DTTB doesn’t need slapstick humor, fake fights and loud shouting to get its (fake) laughs, it’s generally just funny and witty and it also has the added bonus of James Van Der Beak playing himself (ala Matt Le Blanc in Episodes) and speaking as a hardcore Dawsons Creek fan I can tell you, the way they portray JVDB is hilarious! He really must have a good sense of humor.

DTTB is also dark. It looks like the sort of show that would fit in perfectly on Showtime or HBO yet it is ABC, something that when I found out shocked me but yet still seems to work. I think adding in swearing and sex to DTTB could easily work but could also make it too seedy and make it lose some of its charm. It generally is just great the way it is. It has to be great because I managed to watch all 7 epsiodes in one sitting and I’m tempted to do it again soon. When you watch it like that it almost works as a really good film.

We only had 7 episodes of DTTB so who knows how the whole thing would have panned out if it had been stretched as much as New Girl but after watching those 7 brilliant episodes I think I might find it hard to go back to watching Zooey Deschenal do quirky.

           

My only problem with Don’t Trust The Bitch in Apartment 23 is the name. It’s a shocking, shocking name. It’s horrendously clunky and you know that by season 3 it wont not be relevant at all, the bitch wont be a bitch and you probably will be able to trust her. The name needs to change but it wont so I’ll just stick to calling it DTTB!

Anyway if you haven’t seen it I urge you to go watch it now. You won’t regret it.
