Have Some You Pie - Adverts v TV.

What's the most satirical thing on British television at the moment? Stumped you there haven't I? Is it one of those ' Live at the Wherever ' comedy shows with those, nowhere near as funny as they think they are, stand ups? Or is it a panel show where the the contestants are having more fun than the audience? No, you're right, it's none of those. Well I think I've found it, sharp and biting, it's the new Paddy Power ad.

You know, the artsy, spoof, mobile phone one, where the self obsessed models talk about 'taking a swim in lake YOU' and 'have some YOU pie', before that little bloke breaks it all up. On its own it may not seem much but put it in the middle of an add break and it lampoons nearly everything around it. After seeing the Paddy Power advert you can't help but laugh at that car ad with the twins who bleat on about how great they are. Or the paint one, where it's not just emulsion, it's personal, it's you and your canvas. I keep waiting for the little bloke to come in and break it all up.

The ad also sends up all those self obsessed shows. Let's face it, how sick are you of all these people who spout the word passionate all the time?

"I'm passionate about this project"
"I'm passionate about these clothes"

All it really means is "I'm passionate about me and I'm the white hot centre of the universe" These people are not just swimming in lake YOU, they've drowned in it and then you get the life journey mob! They just love to shove their roller-coaster journeys down your throat. Time as a journey meant a trip on the bus but not anymore, now it's an all encompassing trek through the years. But it won't be long before the word journey won't be able to describe these self obsessed people's 'journey' the new word will be Odyssey. They will waffle on about their passionate roller-coaster Odyssey as they choke on their YOU pie. And the only thing that shines a light on all this is a Paddy Power advert, sad isn't it.
