Falling Skies Is On The Rise

Alien : Friendly alien Stock PhotoYou have to hand it to all concerned with Falling Skies, they really have done well to make the series work. It must have lost a fair few viewers back in its self righteous, war of independence heavy first season. I must admit I wavered myself, but I'm glad I stuck around. Things started to look up about half way through the second season and the climb upwards has continued in to its third outing. Falling Skies is now a very good show.

A lot of the improvement must go down to Noah Wyle as Tom Mason, he has gone from rank sentimentalist to tough leader and this hasn't been one of those swift mid story character changes, he has built this performance. OK we still get those pained John Carter looks, but he has made Tom Mason both believable and likable, something we could never have foreseen in season one. Also the story lines have become much more involving Dr Anne Glass (Moon Bloodgood, who really does sound like she should be Potions Master at Hogwarts) has had what seems like the snidest baby in television history. And the tentative alliance with the various aliens is also bearing fruit.

OK, Falling Skies isn't perfect. Will Patton as Dan Weaver has never been able to shake off that whole Lloyd Bridges, Hot Shots thing and there is still a rich vein of sentimentality running through the show. But the good easily out weighs the bad in this ever improving alien invasion saga.
