American Horror Story: Harry Potter and the Coven.

Is it me or was season three of American Horror Story nothing more than Harry Potter with buckets of blood and an unhealthy Stevie Nicks fixation?

Overall the show is starting to come up a little short. The first outing was a loose remake of Beetlejuice, the second season was unwatchable and now Coven was as frightening as Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Heaven knows the show could've done with a character as three dimensional as Salem the talking cat.

Set in Hogwarts, oops, no set in New Orleans at  Miss Robichaux's Academy for err young witches? The pristine looking academy is run by good witch Headmistress Cordelia Foxx (Sarah Poulson) who is constantly hounded and hindered by her mother the evil Supreme witch Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange). Well into the academy comes Harry, Ron, and Herm- No wait, that's wrong. Well the main thrust of Coven was who will be the new Supreme after fading nasty  Fiona goes belly up. All the tosh was interspersed by Kathy Bates going gloriously over the top and Stevie Nicks popping up when you least expected her, we even got a rendition of Seven Wonders in the season finale.

But if you took out the severed heads and eye gouging we were really in Ceebeebies territory here. As usual with American Horror Story the opening credits were by far and away the most frightening thing about it. Now if they could make the season more like the titles, then I think we would have a real horror show on our hands.
