Home and Away Universe - Reefton Lakes

Just when we all thought the Home and Away Universe was moribund, it seems to be roaring back. After the cancellation of Mangrove Rising, the tanking of the Stewart Conundrum, and the so called under performance of Morag Bellingham Investigates all appeared lost. But the producers, no doubt feeling a kick start is needed, have announced a new show, Reefton Lakes! As always I have exclusive access to the Home and Away universe. Much as I have exclusive access to the voices in my head and the inhabitants of the planet Calgon, but that is beside the point.

I have read the script for the pilot episode of Reefton Lakes. And here is how it goes. Roo and her business partner Laura are summoned to a new casino, hotel, and leisure complex that has just been built in Reefton Lakes. No doubt to do whatever it is they do in Home and Away, I'm not sure what is it they do really. Anyway, they are asked to come by the mysterious new owner. Only too happy, they accept. On arrival they are shown into a plush office, then, out of the shadows, steps none other than, the presumed dead, David Croft. Yes, the character played by Guy Pearce back in the 90's. He was supposedly killed in a car crash, which Roo vaguely remembers. David then relates his back-story. It wasn't his body found in the wreck, but that of a hitchhiker. David had amnesia and wandered off into the bush, where he had a kind of Walkabout experience. Eventually David staggered out into Reefton Lakes, where he noticed a piece of paper on the ground. Picking it up he realises it is a lottery ticket. It turns out to be a winning ticket worth ten million dollars. Yes, I thought it sounded a bit far fetched, but this is the Home and Away universe. And, besides, I bet it happens a lot more often than you think, wandering out of the outback and finding a winning lottery ticket. David then went around the world, with the money, taking outrageous risks and making shrewd investments. When he got back to Australia he was one of the wealthiest men in the world. Now he wants to make Reefton Lakes, the start of his good fortune, bigger than the Gold Coast. He asks if Roo and Laura want to help him. To do whatever it is they do. They hesitate, knowing, sooner or later, David Croft will have his eye on Yabbie Creek, Mangrove River, and of course, Summer Bay. We leave it on that cliff hanger.

I understand Reefton Lakes producers are confident Guy Pearce will ditch his highly successful film career for the shaky fledgling project. Whatever the turn out, let's hope we see Reefton Lakes on our screens soon.
