Good Cop - A rare thing.

Good Cop was that most rarest of things an engrossing BBC thriller. Set in Liverpool, but without anyone who needed Jamie Carragher / Being Liverpool F.C. subtitles, writer Stephen Butchard has obviously watched The Shield and Breaking Bad because the characters were sharp and the pace never let up.

All four episodes had  genuine tension and moments when you shout at the telly 'what's he doing now?' and 'get out of there.' So the second series must be on the way, why wouldn't it be? Think of all the utter dreck the BBC happily give third, fourth, and fifth series to. There are a lot of plot twists still to be sorted out, plus we had Michael Smiley turn up in a very small role, Anyone who has seen Kill List will know you do not waste him on three minutes of screen time.  If I had a problem with Good Cop it was with the main character's name John Paul Rocksavage (brilliantly played by Warren Brown) it took me an episode to get my head around it. I couldn't work out if his parents were religious or big fans of The Beatles, plus with a surname like Rocksavage I was confident there would be a scene where he moonlights as a WWE wrestler. That aside, this was a first rate police thriller very well acted, sharply written, with engaging characters and a plot that genuinely kept you guessing.

Let's just hope, in series two, John Paul Rocksavage doesn't meet George Ringo Stonecold.
