The Wright Stuff - An Unsung Hero

How many unsung heroes are there lurking about on our screens, not many I'll bet. Those shows that do a good, solid job but are not deemed cool, or hip or whatever term those idiots are using these days. One such programme is Channel 5's morning phone in The Wright Stuff. It has been going forever, so long it used to be a warm up for Sunset Beach (we all kind of miss Sunset Beach don't we). Well that lamented American soap has long gone but The Wright Stuff is still with us and a good show it is.

While the ITV has toothless, tattooed people shouting at each other on Jeremy Kyle and the BBC trots out that glorified building site show Homes Under the Hammer, Channel 5 has an entertaining current events show, that can hold its own with the best. Host Matthew Wright (OK he's not to everyone's taste) is sharp, on the ball, and keeps things moving very well, and like almost everything about The Wright Stuff is underrated. Matthew's curt manner with callers he doesn't like can be a joy. A lot does depend on the weekly panel, and when that element clicks the show can be funny and entertaining. That is not to say The Wright Stuff runs away from serious issues, most every major topic, of the day, is covered in an adult manner and you never feel talked down to. If you want talking down to just switch over, all the other channels will be doing it.

So The Wright Stuff plugs away year after year never getting the attention it deserves, but much like The Dude, The Wright Stuff abides.

Over.
