The Originals.

I'm not sure The Vampire Diaries was exactly calling out for a spin off in the shape of  The Originals; but then again you can't blame the Mikaelson siblings for deserting the arched eyebrows and love lorn moping of Mystic Falls.

So Elijah (Daniel Gilles ) finds himself in his old stomping ground of New Orleans looking for his brother Klaus (Joseph Morgan) who as you would expect is up to his usual high jinx. But guess what? No guess,  Elijah finds out Klaus, who we all know is a hybrid right, has got a werewolf pregnant. The miracle baby that will see the Mikaelson's become a family again. But the powers that be, in New Orleans, namely the vampires and witches are pretty wary of the Originals rocking in to town; and Rebekah (Claire Holt) hasn't even turned up yet to cause even more havoc.

As you would expect with a Vampire Diaries spin off everyone is unfeisably pretty and the show has more than an air of the panto about it. But, although it would like to be dark, creator Julie Plec has conjoured up a light, entertaining romp of a show and the leads seem to be enjoying themselves away from the cloying atmoshere of Elena and the Salvatore brothers.
