What is it with this new spate of adverts? It seems smug is the order of the day. We have that super smug woman saying she would rather be trapped in a lift with a goblin, than do whatever it is she doesn't want to do. But she would dance with it, befriend it and finally smother it in her contented smugness. That's when the goblin turns on her and wears her head as a hat.
Then there's that car ad that preaches to us while some smug gitt walks through a traffic jam like he's in a REM video.
" Don't start a relationship without love, " the smug voice tells us.
"Too bloody late for that!" We echo back.
"Don't do a job you have no love for," we get again.
"Too bloody late for that as well."
"And don't drive without love."
No, we never do that, we all set off full of love and we all just sing and dance with joy as the M25 clogs up for five hours. Drivers leaving their cars smiling with love filled smugness.
What is it, do these advertising idiots really think smug sells? That we are sitting in our sad front rooms longing to be as self satisfied as all these smug sods presented to us. They're caring, they're sharing, their smug and we hate them all!
