Aquarius. The Dawning of a Dull Age.

You know how sad it can be when you are really rooting for something, wanting it to be good, then feeling that initial enthusiasm drain into disappointment. Well that is how I felt watching the first two episodes of new crime drama Aquarius. It has so much going for it a detective show Set against the termoil of the late 60's and a hunt for Charles Manson. But show's creator John McNamara has described it as historical fiction which means, in TV terms, inaccurate. So why not substitute  Manson for a fictional counterpart so we can say oh right he is.supposed to be Charles Manson. The show centres around David Ducovny ( who looks a little lost in the confusion of the whole thing )as LA cop Sam Hodiak as he looks for the missing daughter of an old friend. But she has fallen into the clutches of the Manson Family. Hodiak is aided by his young hippie(ish) partner Shafe ,an underwhelming Grey Damon. Trouble is Shafe looks like about half a dozen other characters including Manson, so confusion abounds early on. And talking of Manson, Gethin (  Renly Baratheon ) Anthony just isn't scary enough. All we have ever read and seen of Manson is that he had a dark charisma well Mr Anthony displays none of that. And in Aquarius Charlie seems to be deeply ingrained with the rich and powerful oHodiakngeles. But Hodiaku is firmly on his trail and it looks like he could get Manson in the next few episodes. That is if Charlie's powerful pals don't get in his way. Not sure I'll be about to see if he does and I don't really care.
