The begining of B and Lonely Boy...

Swapping bed partners really is no big deal on the Upper East Side, so the emergence of the Dan and Blair romance should really be no surprise to viewers. What is a surprise is how touching and heart warming the relationship is. I for one wouldn’t be surprised if ‘Dair’ is something we will be seeing a lot more of next season.

The Blair and Dan relationship isn’t something you would have expected to see three seasons ago. If anything it would have been seen as far-fetched. But now that it’s happening, you relaise that they actually make more sense then any of the other couples we have seen on Gossip Girl.

Ok I’m aware I may be taking this to seriously but go with me on this…

Dan and Serena, far too complicated.

Nate and Blair, far too obvious.

Chuck and Blair, (as much as I love their love) far too destructive.

Dan and Blair don’t seem to have any of the factors above going against them. They have more in common then any two characters on the show, they seem to bring out the best side in each other and have a love hate relationship that we haven’t seen the likes of since Chuck and Blair in season 1.

The storyline works for a couple of reasons and that’s the writing and the acting. Penn and Leighton are by far the best actors on the show, and the writers are taking advantage of that by putting them together. The writing also has a lot of heart, something we don’t see enough of in Gossip Girl. This was most prominent in the scene where they stayed up watching Rosemary’s Baby whilst on the phone to each other. It was enough to melt even Chuck’s heart.

The ‘Dair’ romance also has a hint of the Joey/Pacey relationship about it. Back all those years ago on Dawsons Creek, you always thought the writers had intended for Dawson and Joey to be together once the show wrapped up because they were meant to be soul mates. The acting and the chemistry was so good between Joey and Pacey and the fans loved the relationship so much that they ended up together in the final episode. It wasn’t probably what the writer’s intended when they started writing the show; it just panned out that way. I have a feeling that the same thing could happen with Dan and Blair.

XOXO
