Revenge - The New Prison Break.

Revenge ended its first season and you'd have to say it was OK. It wasn't quite as silly and convoluted as Ringer, but it run it close at times. As Emily Thorne / Amanda Clarke set out on her epic, Hampton's bound, quest for revenge who knew she would become the new Clark Kent, perhaps the clue was in the name. All Emily/ Amanda had to do was change hair colour and nobody recognised her. She couldn't even be arsed to even attempt a poor disguise like, say, Hannibal in The A-Team. But Emily / Amanda isn't really the nicest of people, poor old Nolan only ever tries to help her. But all he has to say is " Are you sure about this Ems,"and he  gets that steely stare and  slapped down with a couple of curt sentences. Emily/ Amanda is much nicer to Jack, her kind of childhood sweetheart. Although he must be the dimmest character on television. How can he not see this is someone he knew as a child. I'm sure if most of us saw someone we went to school with, even in the infants, we would kind of recognise them. There is always something a person retains, but dense old Jack doesn't seem to see it. Plus finally the world's oldest dog died; that dog was a puppy twenty odd years ago and, until it suddenly decided it had had enough, was trotting merrily between the bar and Amanda/ Emily's house.

Plus, wouldn't you know it, Croydon girl Ashley turned out to be a bit of a villain, well you can take the girl out of Croydon.

But what highlighted how silly Revenge really is, for me, was the return of Dallas. Suddenly here was a grown up show about power and it's consequences. The longer Dallas went on the more Revenge started to look like  the new Prison Break. Emily / Amanda is really just Michael Schofield without the tats; calm, brilliant, and always in control. And also the end of season cliff hanger actually had that, kind of, 'This is bigger than we thought' shady organisation much like Prison Break. But for all my moans, I enjoyed Revenge and I will be there for the first episode of season two. Let's just hope season three doesn't take place in a Panamanian prison.
