Hollywood Treasure.

You know how it can be, you sit there bored just idly watching Flog It as endless expectant people bring in their great aunt's chipped Clarice Cliff bowl hoping it will bring them a villa in Spain, but doesn't even get them a night in Bognor. Then someone turns up with a batch of autographs, or something from a film. You immediately perk up,  start taking attention, and think why don't they have more of this stuff? Well good news Hollywood Treasure (which seems to be on Watch all the time) is the answer to your prayers.

It's the Antiques Roadshow for geeks and it doesn't make you feel grubby for watching like Dickinson's Real Deal. Hollywood Treasure centres around the Profiles In History company and its highly enthusiastic owner Joe Maddalena. We follow Joe and his, at times fawning, crew as they chase leads that will bring movie memorabilia to auction. Every time they see something they go: "Wow!" But in truth I've gone "Wow!" myself quite a few times as you are presented with an authentic Robbie the Robot or Marilyn Monroe's Seven Year itch white dress. Joe and his team don't always get the items as their manic, collector owners gimp out at the prospect of losing their baby; and Joe's expression of baffled loss is always a joy to watch. It is also good to see how they authenticate the artifacts with the films they came from; at times placing the most obscure object and matching it with the exact  frame. The show always ends with an auction as we see this stuff sell for astronomical amounts and frankly you wonder where some of the bidders get their money. The financial set up of the show isn't gone into at all, so we have no idea how much of a percentage Joe, and Profiles In History, get for auctioning off a Predator's foot or a Wonks Bar.

So if you are tired of being talked to like a demented ninety year old by Paul Martin on Flog It or checking your wallet after watching Dickinson's Real Deal why not try Hollywood Treasure on Watch, even if you don't get on with it, at least it's sunnier.
