Kevin Bacon's The Following/Scream/Touch of Cloth.

After watching about five minutes of Sky Atlantic's The Following I thought Charlie Brooker is going to be a rich man, Fox have bought A Touch of Cloth. Then it hit me, this wasn't a spoof, these guys are playing it for real.

Created by Kevin Williamson, and starring British TV advert sensation Kevin Bacon, The Following explores the fresh and seldom used genre of serial killers. Yeah, when was the last time you saw anything on that underexposed group? James Purefoy, fresh from his unconvincing stint as an artist in Revenge, plays genius, charismatic serial killer Joe Caroll. This is another element unique to The Following, we have never seen this type of omnipotent, manipulating serial killer before.

Well Joe escapes, from prison causing the maximum body count, you know how it is, why creep out unnoticed when you can leave half the prison dead? Who is the only person that  can track him down, yes the man who captured him and was seriously wounded in the process Ryan Hardy. I tried to rack my brain, now where have I seen that scenario before? But I just couldn't think, so like the rest of The Following it must be fresh and original. Ryan is a heavy drinker and retired from the FBI on medical grounds, plus he has written a book about Cotton Weary and The Woodsboro Murders, sorry no, I mean Joe Caroll, so he is the ideal expert. But Joe isn't just on the run oh no he has a master plan based on his obsession with Poe, I thought why go overboard on just one Teletubby? But turns out it is Edgar Allen Poe, another fresh twist for The Following. Joe's master-plan is to unite every serial killer in the USA, apparently there are 300, no doubt he got that info from the Census, and make them into one big club; the Thomas Harris fan club.

I won't bore you with the ins and outs of the hour suffice to say, much like Bane and Loki before him, Joe gives himself up to reveal his master-plan. Yep, so now it will be up to Ryan, and his Criminal Minds type associates, to stop this fan club from hell. Not too sure I'll be joining them on the chase.
