The Big Reunion

Never a channel to be left in the lurch by a hit show, ITV 2 gave us their version of the Steps Reunion by replacing the word Steps with Big; then giving us a whole bargain bin full of groups that we had all forgotten existed, let alone feel excited about their getting back together.

Yes, The Big Reunion will see Liberty X, Five, Bewitched, 911, The Honeyz (no me neither ) and Atomic Kitten all reunite in a flood of tears, tantrums and faded egos. Probably the only thing these groups have in common these days is that their Cd's grace the shelves of every charity shop in the country.

The first, Steps lite, episode gave us Liberty X and Five, well four because Jay has refused the call of ITV 2, talk about spoil sport. And, as you would expect, these were tales of outrageous highs and withering lows. We saw this with Liberty X as they bemoaned their  plummeting video budgets, who knew that was a status symbol? All narrated by Andi Peters, we learnt that being in Five and Liberty X was great and dreadful, happy and sad, boozy and boring. So what has happened to these one time pop stars in the years we have callously forgotten about them? Well  exactly the same as what happened to Steps, life. They have families, jobs, and responsibilities that don't include worrying about video budgets and chart positions.

So what are these groups getting out of The Big Reunion? With Steps it was a greatest hits compilation and arena tours, but can we really see that happening for  The Honeyz? Perhaps a grand nostalgia tour, or two, and 90's hen and stag weekends at Butlins are noble ambitions for faded pop stars. Anyway I can't wait to see how all the other groups have turned out, you don't think it might be much the same. Still The Big Reunion will do until we get the holy grail, Showaddywaddy, yes there was about thirty of them so imagine the tears, tantrums and back biting. What do you mean, you saw them at Butlins last week?
