Revolution - A Pretty Apocalypse.

First the good news, after fifteen years without electricity and the total breakdown of society we will all seem a lot chipper and be better looking; well that is if you believe Sky 1's new dystopian drama Revolution. In this post power world everyone looks healthy, with perfect teeth ( obviously the dentists survived ) and even the  put upon slaves look like they could go half a dozen rounds with a Klitchko.

Set fifteen years after the aforementioned mother of all blackouts, Revolution centres around Charlie Matheson ( Tracy Spiradakos ) and her uncle super Ninja type dude Miles Matheson ( Billy Burke ) as they try to hunt down brother / nephew Danny ( Graham Rogers ) who has been captured by the evil Monroe Militia. (Boo hiss ) They are aided, in their quest, by Maggie ( Anna Lise Phillips ) a woman with such a  cut glass English accent that she makes the Duchess of Kent sound like Danny Dyer and Zac (Aaron Pittman) who looks like he could star in Ricky Tomlinson- The Early Years. I really don't need to tell you what happens because you've seen it all before, done about the same on a fraction of the budget, in Survivors and a million times better in The Walking Dead. There are Lost type flashbacks and odd amulets that can turn the power back on, this is no doubt why JJ Abrams has an Executive, friend's cousin's budgie, Producer credit. The creators probably said; "We've got a big tosh element in the show, let's get JJ  in to legitimise it."

On the whole the script is pretty leaden and the acting is deeply so so, the only exception is Giancarlo Esposito as a Militia Commander. On the evidence of the first two episodes Revolution will be going the way of Terra Nova pretty quickly.
