Carry On The Borgias

Ever since The Carry On series petered out nearly thirty five years ago there was nothing to replace it, until The Borgias turned up, so we can all yell yippee because The Borgias is back.

Yet again we can wallow in thick slice ham acting, deeply serious scowling faces, convoluted, who cares, plots and Cardinal This doing something to Cardinal That. The only down side of the opening episode of season three ( yeah, I know, season three ) was that Jeremy Irons was laid up for most of it with his season two finale poisoning. So we couldn't enjoy his scenery chewing Frankie Howerd impression, but I'm sure he will more than make up for it in the coming episodes. This week our fave family were plunged into turmoil as Katerina Someoneorother sent a mob of assassins to do away with them. Seeing how this show is called The Borgias and it was the first episode there really wasn't much edge of the seat tension on 'will they won't they survive?'

Like Boardwalk Empire, The Borgias refuses to catch fire and is nowhere near as good as it thinks it is.  Sky Atlantic have promoted it to the Game of Thrones slot, perhaps they are thinking: 'You can't polish a turd, but at least you can sprinkle a little glitter on it.'

Over.
